February 21–24 & April 18–21, 2017

Arlington Community Education offers enrichment programs for grades K-8 during February and April vacations. Modeled on SummerFun!, VacationFun! is designed to appeal to kids of many interests with courses  taught by experienced classroom teachers.

  • Half-day, full-day options, mix-and-match morning and afternoon sessions
  • Small class sizes
  • Open to students in grades K-8 from Arlington and surrounding communities
  • A supervised lunch period (including recess) is automatically included for students taking both a morning and an afternoon class (or LARP). Staff will escort students to and from classes and lunch.

February VacationFun courses:

Mornings (9:00 am – 12:00 pm)

This was, without question, the best class my kids have ever taken through Arlington Community Education.

Important Information

Who Can Enroll?

Both residents of Arlington and non-residents are welcome to enroll in our classes at the same low tuition. Registration opens as soon as the classes are posted online and continues until the first meeting of any class, as space permits. Under-enrolled classes are cancelled, so register early.

Drop-off

There is NO EARLY DROP-OFF. Students will be allowed in the building 5 minutes prior to the start of each class.

Room Assignments

These are posted in the Main Lobby of Arlington High School and staff will be there to help.

Morning Classes

On the first day, children in grades 5 and younger must be walked to their classroom and met at their classroom at the end of each day, unless you have marked them as walkers on the registration form. For the remainder of the week, children in grades 3 and up may check themselves in at their classrooms. Please note the location of your child’s afternoon class in the Main Lobby for when you return for afternoon pick-up.

Afternoon Classes

Find your child’s class meeting place in the AHS lobby and wait there for the teacher to collect students and them in.

Lunch

Students attending classes all day will have lunch (bring your own) and free-play 12:00 – 1:00 pm each day. Half-day students have the option of staying for lunch at $10/day. Students are supervised during the lunch hour and brought to their afternoon classrooms. Students must bring their own nut-free lunch; the cafeteria is closed.

Dismissal

For students in grades 1 – 5: if you have not authorized your child to walk home alone (on registration form), meet your child in his/her classroom at the end of your child’s day. You or an authorized adult are required to sign your child in and out daily and provide your FAMILY CODE, which is the last four digits of your primary phone plus student’s last name. Please share this code with anyone you authorize to pick up your child. Children MUST be picked up by 12:00 pm or 4:00 pm each day, depending on your schedule. Delays in pick-ups will result in a charge of $5 for each additional 5-minute period that the on-site coordinator waits with your child, payable immediately.

For students in grades 6 – 8 we follow the Ottoson Middle School procedure and dismiss students from their classroom.

Late or Absent

If your child will be absent or late, please let us know prior to 8:45 am. We take attendance to make sure that all children in the program are accounted for, so it is important that we know if your child will be absent. What to wear

Children should wear comfortable, casual clothes and shoes.

What to bring

All items brought to camp should be clearly marked with your child’s name; we cannot be responsible for lost items. Each day, children must bring a snack and water bottle. Children remaining for lunch must also bring a nut-free lunch and snack plus a water bottle.

Medical/Special Needs

There is no nurse or other medical staff on duty during these VacationFun! classes. Arlington Community Ed employees are not permitted to administer medication. If your child needs to take medication and cannot self-medicate, a parent or guardian may come to the program site to administer medication. EpiPens stay with children in their backpack, the location clearly labeled. In event of emergency, VacationFun! staff will administer EpiPens.

Media Release

ACE occasionally takes photos of classes for use in catalogs, advertising and other promotional materials. If you do not wish to have your child photographed by ACE, please notify the office before your child’s program begins.

Registration Confirmation

You are officially enrolled as soon as we receive your registration form and payment. If you provide us with your email address, you will receive a confirmation.

Registration Fee

A $6 registration fee is charged once per person per term.

How Credit Card Charges Work

Credit card charges appear on statements as charges from “Arlington Community Education”.

Refunds

  1. Full refunds are given when a class is cancelled due to low enrollment OR the course requested is already full.
  2. Withdrawals for classes must be made in writing and received by ACE before February 1 for February VacationFun! and before April 1 for April VacationFun!. Students will receive a refund minus a $25 processing fee per class.
  3. No other refunds will made for classes missed or dropped.

Snow & Weather

If we are forced to cancel or delay February classes, we will notify you via email and post details on our website. We are unable to phone families individually so please make note of our web address: ArlingtonCommunityEd.org. You will be reimbursed the time missed. No makeup classes will be scheduled.

Scholarships & Discounts

Partial tuition scholarships are available for some classes for students who receive free and reduced lunch. Please contact Food Services to obtain your official letter before contacting us. Registration must be done over the phone or in person. Scholarships vary by class. Please call 781-316-3568 for more information.
